Do you recognize these feelings? I am sure you do. This is what you feel when things are dumped on you. Most managers do not know what effective delegation is and how to do it. They just dump the things on people who are reporting to them. I am not blaming the managers completely for this mess. We all know they were never formally taught this very important life skill. Schools and other academic institutions do not teach how to delegate. Many of the corporate houses too do not teach delegating skills to their managers. They expect managers will ‘have’ those skills already. But where will they learn what effective delegation is?

In my ten years of experience in working in teams at different roles – team member to manager – now I have the wisdom to say:

1.    Delegation skill is not inborn. Whatever delegation skills we learn from our parents at home are not sufficient at professional level.

2.  You have to learn effective delegation skill is by observing others and then practicing it.

3.  Only way to learn effective delegation is by delegating.

4.   If your delegating skill is bad, you are not getting the next promotion. Period.

5.   You will work, work, work, work, and work…till you die.

If you do not want to work 18 hours a day and still finish your work and also do a part of your managers work, then you will have to learn delegation. Simply realize that where you are now is because of what you are doing. But what you are doing now is not going to take you there – where you want to go.

Effective Delegation can Increase Productivity, Save Time, Empower People And Do More In Less Time, Be Stress Free, Even Get You A Promotion

Am I sound confused…please read the previous sentence again.

I was talking with an HR manager regarding promotion policy in his company. He told me if you are doing your job in the best possible technique, producing best quality output and consuming least company resources – you might be called as the best employee of the company, you will be considered for huge** bonus but you will NOT be considered for promotion. Consideration for promotion is made only when you do a part of your manager’s work – even if you are not doing it in the most efficient way.

Time has come when your age, experience have been devalued. What is valuable is how much you can do for the company.

It directly means you will have to do more and more in less time. The only way to accomplish it is by effective delegation.

This blog is for those who wants to do more for their organization, family and themselves, those who want to have time to talk to their toddlers still go up in their professional and personal life. Here I will share all that I have learned in bits and pieces over a decade of professional life.

By the way did I say that if you are satisfied with where you are now and have no desire to go up…I thank you for reading by blog so far but this blog is not intended for you.
